There’s nothing quite as disruptive to weight loss goals as having to simultaneously navigate the (big and small) life transitions that come at you.
Fellow American Nutrition Coach Living Abroad in Europe, Gillian Bennett, and I initially sat down to talk about navigating transitions like an overseas move while continuing to prioritize your nutrition, and, instead, realized just how aligned are our philosophies on just about everything!
Having to navigate transitions can disrupt your steps towards building confidence and effect your decision making abilities.
You may not be planning a transition as big as an overseas move, but maybe your new work schedule or upcoming kitchen renovation has got you stressing – if so, this episode is for you!

Making Decisions Based on Core Values
Defining your core values should be one of the first steps you take when setting goals.
Without having those values to ground you and your goals, you will eventually find yourself making excuses, giving in to temptations more often than not, and ultimately giving up on making progress.
With a defined set of core values, you will easily be able to discern if the choices that you are making are helping you make progress towards becoming the person you want to be.
Once you have your core values defined, you can simply ask yourself, “Is this something that the type of person I say I am (or want to be) would do,” and if the answer is no, then it’s time to figure out where the disconnect is happening.
When you’re making decisions based on core values, you’ll find yourself taking more compassionate ownership in your life which will allow you to reach your goals not only quicker, but also more sustainably.
Keys to Building Confidence
You might think that building confidence only comes from mastering all the things on the first try, but that’s not the case.
Building confidence in your ability to do anything comes from allowing yourself to fail, learning from the mistakes that led to the failure, and trying again with that knowledge and experience.
This may look like taking your foot off the gas a bit and starting with a smaller step in order to get some wins under your belt and creating momentum that keeps you going.
When it comes to weight loss, there’s often a misconception that you will only feel confident once you’ve lost all the weight you want to lose, but the reality is that all of the steps you take that lead to the weight loss is where you actually build confidence.
Through the process, you learn more about yourself, you create habits, and push yourself in ways you may not have anticipated and those are the things that are building confidence.
